The Sisters of Saint Joseph Philadelphia (formerly the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Chestnut Hill) number more than 1,100 women serving largely in the Middle Atlantic states and in many other areas from Alaska to Peru. “Our mission as Sisters of Saint Joseph flows from the purpose for which our Congregation exists. We live and work so that all people may be united with God and with one another. As Sisters of Saint Joseph we live this mission of unity through prayer, community life and ministry.”
Death Penalty Statement
We, the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Chestnut Hill, whose mission is one of unity and reconciliation, declare our opposition to the death penalty while reaching out in compassion to victims of violent crimes. We join our voices with our sisters and brothers from around the world who have denounced the use of the death penalty as a deterrent for crime and who consider the death penalty as a violation of human rights. (Corporate Stand Against the Death Penalty, December 10, 1998)
Join with us in prayer for those on death row and their victims and to bring about a moratorium on the death penalty.
