On February 6, Karen Clifton, Vicki Schieber and Sr. Ilaria Buonriposi of CMN joined the Religious Unity Day for Death Penalty Repeal in Annapolis, Maryland. Many state faith leaders, including representatives from the Catholic, Episcopalian, Presbyterian, Jewish and Muslim communities, gathered to call for repeal of the Maryland’s death penalty.
Legislation to repeal the death penalty and provide for a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole will be heard by the House and Senate committees February 14. The legislation reallocates some of the saving realized from eliminating the death penalty to strengthen services provided to the families of murder victims.
