
Alan Mobley, PhD is an activist, writer, researcher, and professor of Criminal Justice at San Diego State University. He first became interested in criminal justice issues in 1984, when he was arrested on narcotics charges. His teaching and writings explore the many dimensions of mass incarceration and justice system involvement. As a researcher and activist, he is a co-founder of academically-oriented Convict Criminology; All of Us or None, which launched the “Ban the Box” movement; the Project Rebound Consortium of the California State University, an outreach and support program for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated college students; and at San Diego State University, he directs SDSU Project Rebound and the SDSU Center for Transformative Justice. Dr. Mobley is a Council trainer in the tradition of the Ojai Foundation, and co-founder of Center for Council’s Inmate Council Program, which offers peer-facilitated circle dialogue trainings to incarcerated men and women.
