About Our Facilitators

Catholic Mobilizing Network is pleased to welcome Schoene Mahmood (Loyola Marymount University) and Joel Lightfoot (Bridges to Life) to share their skill and experience in restorative justice ministry.

Joel Lightfoot is a longtime volunteer, regional coordinator and now Outreach Manager at Bridges To Life. The mission of Bridges To Life is to connect communities to prisons to reduce the recidivism rate (particularly that of violent crimes), reduce the number of crime victims, and enhance public safety. The spiritual mission of Bridges To Life is to minister to victims and offenders in an effort to show them the transforming power of God’s love and forgiveness. Joel’s passion for prison ministry developed as he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Justice Systems from Truman State University, followed by a Master’s in Survey of Justice and Security from the University of Phoenix.

Schoene Mahmood serves as Program Manager of the Restorative Justice Project to develop RJP curriculum and provide educational trainings that include on-going skill-building workshops for K-12 school community members. Extending the reach to higher-education stakeholders, she is partnering with the LMU Office of Student Affairs to implement Restorative Practices campus-wide at LMU. Schoene facilitated restorative conferences for 700+ juvenile expulsion, arrest, and court-diversion cases in the states of Baltimore, Maryland and Los Angeles, California.
