Communications Manager

This position is currently a full-time role, based in Washington, DC.  The Communications Manager has primary responsibility for coordinating all internal and external print and web messaging, media, branding, and communications.

Media Relations

  • First point of contact with press
  • Draft press releases, press statements, interview talking points and media responses, op-ed articles, and story pitches to media outlets
  • Manage up-to-date list of religious and secular journalists and media outlets
  • Build collegial working relationships with communications contacts
  • Track press mentions and interviews
  • Stay abreast of current death penalty messaging through Death Penalty Communications Working Group and appropriate restorative justice terms
  • Copy-editing duties for all external communications

Social Media

  • Strategize with CMN team, especially death penalty and restorative justice staff, about advocacy communications and external actions

  • Oversee, create and curate original graphic and educational content for organization's social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)

  • Respond to inquiries and comments received through CMN’s digital communications

  • Create graphics, including working with Canva

External Communication/Education Materials

  • Frame, curate and design monthly online newsletter and quarterly print version

  • Manage inventory of printed CMN materials and order new materials as needed

  • Oversee CRM (Salsa) and all outgoing email communications

  • Assist in creating online advocacy and using web tools such as Salsa Labs

  • Create, edit, format, update, distribute, gather feedback on CMN educational and prayer resources

  • Ensure all externally-facing materials align with CMN brand and graphic standards

  • Manage organizational communications matrix

  • Respond to requests to the info@address

Web

  • Maintain, update and keep up with technical capacity building related to CMN website

  • Ensure CMN’s website stays relevant, ensuring a regular stream of fresh content

  • Manage web and tech problems, when necessary interface with outside consultants

  • Lead quarterly website reviews to ensure website is functional, relevant and streamlined for each programmatic area

  • Maintain CMN’s URL registrations and act as the point of contact for CMN’s web hosting and other online services

Administrative

  • Prepare Communication program report for board meetings

  • Work with colleagues to prepare grant applications and reports

  • Maintain good working relationships with relevant third-party contractors, vendors, including graphic designers, web developers, printers, etc.

  • Track and provide monthly reporting on digital analytics of website and social media engagement, page views, email performance, and other relevant insights and trends

  • Maintain CMN’s branded stationery elements such as printed and digital letterhead, fact sheet templates, etc.

  • Collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer in developing a system for organizing, storing, and archiving CMN documentation

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, organizational planning, relevant ongoing retreats and staff trainings

  • Other communications functions and projects as needed

Supervision

  • The Communications Manager is supervised by the Executive Director or designate.

Ideal Candidates would have:

  • Minimum 3-years experience in communications, with an emphasis on content creation and/or digital organizing or relevant work experience

  • Comfort working with Church hierarchy

  • Understanding of Catholic theology and Catholic Social Teaching, a strong plus

  • Experience writing press releases and press statements, responding to media requests

  • Top-notch writing skills

  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and keep things moving while maintaining a high attention to accuracy and detail

  • Tech savvy and familiar with databases and new technology

  • Work independently,  appreciate a collaborative work environment

  • Commitment to the mission and core values of Catholic Mobilizing Network, including a commitment to racial equity

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

Salary and Benefits
The starting salary range is $40,000-$45,000 based on experience.  CMN provides individual health insurance.
