About the Theme: Unpacking Accountability
“Accountability is some of the hardest work any of us will ever do. It is rooted in our human dignity. It requires our human agency.” -Danielle Sered, Common Justice
We are mutually responsible for one another, so transparency and honesty are needed to acheive justice. Confession is imperative to the sacrament of reconciliation in our relationship with God. Likewise, the deep work of taking responsibility, expressing remorse, and making amends honors the dignity and contributes to the healing of all those involved in and impacted by harm.
In the criminal legal system, accountability is often equated with punishment. In a restorative justice framework, accountability involves taking responsibility for the impact of ones' own actions, expressing remorse, and making amends. Together in this Deepening Circle, we will discern how rethinking accountability can play a role in our lives and ministry — in our relationships with God and neighbor alike.
Co-Facilitators
In these Deepening Circles, we welcome the experiences and wisdom of every person who attends. Caitlin Morneau, CMN's Director of Restorative Justice, and Lucie Martinot-Lagarde, CMN's Restorative Justice Program Associate, will serve as co-facilitators for the session. Fellow RJ Ministry community members will serve as small group circlekeepers.
