The Catholic Community of Sant’Egidio is on the forefront of the global movement to end the death penalty. From solidarity with death row prisoners to large-scale advocacy and campaigns, the community’s unique approach is rooted in a Gospel call to nonviolence, peace and friendship. Hear from Rome-based Carlo Santoro, coordinator of Sant’Egidio’s work against the death penalty and learn how this Catholic movement has made strides with its unique approach and with partners like the Catholics Mobilizing Network Against the Death Penalty, Journey of Hope, Hands Off Cain, World Coalition against the Death Penalty, Amnesty International and many others.

Long-time friend of Sant’Egidio, Bill Pelke, founder of Journey of Hope, an organization of victims’ family members against the death penalty, will share his story of forgiveness, compassion and how victims’ family members are making a difference in ending capital punishment in the U.S.

Karen Clifton, executive director of Catholic Mobilizing Network will introduce the National Catholic Pledge to End the Death Penalty and explain where the U.S. based abolition movement stands and the special role the Catholic Church and individuals can play to help stop executions.
