Background: Over the last year, we have witnessed 13 executions carried out by our federal government — an unprecedented number. Yet nationally, a growing number of states are moving to abolish the death penalty.

Bipartisan legislation to abolish capital punishment in Ohio was recently introduced in the state legislature. With all of this going on, it is imperative for each of us to truly understand the anti-death penalty teachings of the Church — most specifically what Pope Francis has said about this immoral and outdated practice.

What can we, as Catholics, do to abolish the death penalty? Join us as we explore.
