(Washington, D.C.) From April 18-24, Catholic Mobilizing Network joins the nation in recognizing National Crime Victims’ Rights Week and urging victim-centered responses to harm, crime, and violence.
“Catholic social teaching calls us to prioritize the needs of people who are marginalized and vulnerable, which includes victims and survivors of crime,” said Krisanne Vaillancourt Murphy, Executive Director of CMN.
“A restorative approach to justice calls us to the same end. It offers us ways of centering the needs and voices of crime victims and exploring pathways toward renewed safety, recovery, and healing.”
The annual commemoration of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week lifts up the accomplishments of the victims’ rights movement, which is built upon the courageous advocacy of individual victims of crime, their families, and those who assist them.
Over its decade-long history, Catholic Mobilizing Network has collaborated closely with victims of crime and their families, in both its restorative justice programming and anti-death penalty advocacy.
“By centering victims’ needs and voices,” said Vaillancourt Murphy, “we begin to interrupt cycles of violence and build more humanizing systems of justice for all.”
