Job Posting: Young Adult Engagement Associate

Position Overview

Catholic Mobilizing Network (CMN) seeks a passionate and mission-driven Young Adult Engagement Associate to increase engagement with and mobilization of Catholic young adults (ages 18–39) in CMN’s mission to end the death penalty, advance justice, and begin healing through education, advocacy, and prayer. This position leads CMN’s young adult focused programs, cultivating engagement, building its base, and empowering Catholic young adults to live out the Church’s pro-life teachings through national initiatives and relationship-building.

This position is full-time, based in Washington, D.C., and may require travel, approximately 6-8 times annually. Some flexibility to work offsite. The Young Adult Engagement Associate is supervised by the Director of Death Penalty Abolition Program and will work within a dynamic and collaborative team. Specifically, the position is responsible for the following:

Programmatic Responsibilities

  • Oversee the coordination of CMN’s Next Gen for Justice Program, including college speaking tours and expanding outreach to high schools in death penalty priority states.
  • Coordinate and implement CMN’s annual Justice & Mercy Poetry Contest, enhancing its reach and impact.
  • Establish and convene a diverse Young Adult Advisory Committee of Catholic young adults to leverage their leadership, ambassador, and collaboration potential.
  • Provide support for state-level death penalty-related advocacy and programming, as needed.

Internship Program Coordination

  • Manage CMN’s internship program including recruitment, selection, and ongoing support.
  • Train and mentor interns by leading orientation sessions, organizing professional development activities, and providing regular feedback to support their growth.

Outreach, Engagement, and Conference Coordination

  • Serve as the staff lead for young adult-focused conferences that CMN regularly attends (e.g., Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, SEEK); coordinating CMN’s presence at these events, including engagement strategies and post-event follow-up.
  • Collaborate with campus ministries, diocesan offices, and Catholic student organizations to create impactful ways for young adults to engage in advocacy and faith-based social action.
  • Represent CMN at national, regional, and local conferences to share CMN’s mission—promoting restorative justice and ending the death penalty—and to build relationships that advance this work.
  • Convene with peers in social justice and young adult ministry for intentional exchange of best practices.
  • Strategize ways to increase the sustainability of young adult engagement in CMN’s mission.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, organizational planning, relevant retreats and staff trainings.
  • Support organization wide initiatives through participation in working groups and assistance in planning for bi-annual conferences.
  • Collaborate with development staff, when appropriate, on grant applications and reports, including tracking and organizing relevant program data using the EveryAction database system.

Required Skills

  • Passion for advocating for change in the U.S. capital punishment system and promoting restorative justice.
  • Knowledge of Catholic Social teachings on life, the death penalty, and social justice.
  • Commitment to the core values of CMN, including a commitment to racial equity.
  • Knowledge of CMN and a passion for being part of a mission-driven organization.
  • Comfort working in a faith-based organization.
  • Experience working with young adults and creating programs to inspire social justice involvement.
  • Experience planning and coordinating events to engage and educate young adults.
  • Ability to engage young adults through effective writing and speaking.
  • Experience with leading groups and workshops to encourage collaboration and growth.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in connecting with diverse individuals and building meaningful relationships.
  • Ability to work well within a team to achieve common goals.
