STOP the Execution of Harold Nichols
Please contact Governor Bill Lee and urge him to grant clemency to Harold Nichols and stop his execution from going forward.
Tennessee intends to execute Harold Nichols on December 11, 2025 for the 1988 rape and murder of Karen Pulley.
We oppose this execution as we do every execution. Capital punishment is an act of state sanctioned violence that violates the sacred dignity of every human life. In the words of Saint Pope John Paul II, “The dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil.”
At the time of Harold’s trial in 1990, life without parole was not a sentencing option in Tennessee. Three jurors now oppose his execution and favor commutation. Additionally, Hamilton County district attorneys agreed in 2018 to resentence Harold, but at the last minute the judge unexpectedly reversed course and refused to accept the agreement.
Harold suffered a childhood of physical and sexual abuse. He took responsibility for his crimes and even found forgiveness with the mother of his victim. Today, one of his most prized possessions is the bible she gave him with her daughter’s favorite bible verses highlighted.
Executing Harold will not advance justice, it will only perpetuate the cycles of harm.
Contact Gov. Lee today and urge him to grant clemency to Harold Nichols.
