Greg Erlandson has served in Catholic media as a journalist, author, editor, publisher and president.
From 2016 to 2022, he served as Editor in Chief and Director of Catholic News Service (CNS), which was based in Washington with offices in New York and Rome. CNS served Catholic publications and dioceses throughout the United States and around the world.
For 15 years he was President and Publisher of the Our Sunday Visitor Publishing Division. Our Sunday Visitor is a not-for-profit Catholic company that publishes OSV Newsweekly and other periodicals, trade books, parish resources and religious education curricula for parishes and schools.
Before becoming publisher, Erlandson had served first as the editor of OSV Newsweekly and then as Editor in Chief at Our Sunday Visitor Publishing.
He previously worked as a foreign correspondent in the Rome bureau of Catholic News Service, where he covered the Vatican from 1986 to 1989. He also served as news editor for the National Catholic Register when it was based in Los Angeles.
He is co-author of the 2010 book, Pope Benedict XVI and the Sexual Abuse Crisis: Working for Reform and Renewal and has written many articles, editorials and columns. He is a regular columnist for the Angelus, magazine of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, OSV News wire service and Living Faith.
Erlandson is past president of the Catholic Press Association. He has served as a consultor for the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. In 2014 he was one of six international experts appointed by the Council of Cardinals to the Vatican Media Committee to propose reforms for the Vatican’s diverse media operations. Erlandson has received the St. Francis De Sales Award for outstanding contributions to Catholic journalism and the Bishop John England Award for publishers from the Catholic Press Association. In 2016 he was inducted into the Association of Catholic Publishers’ Hall of Fame for his lifetime achievement in Catholic publishing.
In 2017 he was awarded the Cardinal Cushing Medal for the Advancement of Church Research by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate.
