Vigils
As long as lives are on the line, our work must be rooted in prayer.
First Friday Prayer Vigils
On the First Friday of each month, CMN invites you to a virtual prayer vigil, a sacred space to lament upcoming executions and bear witness to the sanctity of all human life. Join us to stand in solidarity with people facing execution, their victims, and all who are impacted by the unjust system of capital punishment.
First Friday Prayer Vigils include time for guided prayer, petitions, Scripture reflections, and contemplative silence. Catholic bishops, ministry leaders, and allies from the abolition movement often lend their voices to these gatherings.
Our Next Vigil
Due to Good Friday falling on the first Friday of April, CMN’s virtual prayer vigil will be hosted on the second Friday.
Our next vigil will be April 10 at 2 p.m. ET. A scripture reflection will be offered by Bishop Joseph R. Kopacz of the Diocese of Jackson.
Since being ordained and installed as the Bishop of the Diocese of Jackson, Most Rev. Joseph R. Kopacz has served as a board member for St. Dominic’s Health System, and Sacred Heart Southern Missions, Catholic Charities, and has served on several USCCB committees. Of special significance, during his tenure the Canonization Cause for Sister Thea Bowman, FSPA, Servant of God was officially endorsed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
