RJ Ministry Community of Practice > Deepening Circles > March 6
"Racism still profoundly affects our culture, and it has no place in the Christian heart. This evil causes great harm to its victims, and it corrupts the souls of those who harbor racist or prejudicial thoughts. … We cannot, therefore, look upon the progress against racism in recent decades and conclude that our current situation meets the standard of justice.”
U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love. A Pastoral Letter Against Racism, 2018
To work at overcoming racism, we as a society and as a Church need to “engage the world and encounter others” (Open Wide Our Hearts). Where can we start to create spaces that are brave enough to unpack, speak truth, and begin to heal? How can restorative practices facilitate engaging issues of racism, bias, and structural oppression in our parishes and ministries?
In this Deepening Circle, seasoned practitioners from the RJ Ministry Community of Practice will share stories and learnings from their experience at parish and diocesan levels. Participants will then reflect in small group circles about hopes, starts, and stumbles in ending and healing wounds of racism.
