Paul Gamboa-Taylor

MAY 11, 2021 UPDATE: On Monday, May 10, 2021, the scheduled execution of Paul Gamboa Taylor was reprieved by Gov. Tom Wolf.
Paul Gamboa-Taylor was sentenced to death in 1992 and has been on Pennsylvania’s death row for almost 30 years. In April 2021, he exhausted his state appeals, and as such, received an execution date scheduled for May 14, 2021.
However, the state of Pennsylvania has been under a governor-declared execution moratorium since 2015. The moratorium means that as long as Governor Tom Wolf remains in office, no executions will be carried out in the state.
While no executions will be carried out under Governor Wolf, the moratorium does not prohibit executions dates from being scheduled. In fact, Pennsylvania law requires that an execution date be set once the defendant’s state appeal is concluded, regardless of other appeals or moratoria.
Because of the moratorium, a temporary reprieve will be granted to Paul Gamboa-Taylor before his execution date arrives. No advocacy actions are requested at this time.
