STOP the Execution of Edward Zakrzewski
Please contact Governor DeSantis and the Florida Board of Executive Clemency urging them to grant clemency to Edward Zakrzewski, and stop his execution.
Florida intends to execute Edward Zakrzewski on July 31 for the 1994 murders of his wife, Sylvia, and their children Edward and Anna Zakrzewski.
We oppose this execution as we do every execution. Capital punishment is an act of state sanctioned violence that violates the sacred dignity of every human life. In the words of Saint Pope John Paul II, “The dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil.”
In Edward’s case, the jury recommended the death penalty for the murders of Sylvia and Edward, both by a vote of seven to five. The jury recommended life imprisonment for the murder of Anna. Edward’s death sentences stem from two non-unanimous jury recommendations and a judge’s override of a jury’s decision for life. No other state in the country, including Florida under its current law, would permit an execution under these circumstances.
If carried out, this execution would mark the ninth in the state of Florida this year alone — the most executions the state has ever seen in one year.
It is up to each of us to continue to cry out against the injustice of capital punishment as we work for just solutions that are rooted in dignity, not death.
Contact Gov. DeSantis and the Florida Board of Executive Clemency today, urging them to stop this execution.
