STOP the Execution of Norman M. Grim

Please contact Governor Ron DeSantis and urge him to stop the execution of Norman M. Grim.

Florida intends to execute Norman M. Grim on October 28 for the 1998 murder of Cynthia Campbell.

We oppose this execution as we do every execution. Capital punishment is an act of state-sanctioned violence that violates the sacred dignity of every human life. In the words of Saint Pope John Paul II, “The dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil.” 

Norman has not had an attorney since his former attorney retired several years ago and never formally withdrew from his case. Regardless, the state pursued his death warrant. Norman received new counsel four days after his death warrant was signed, and just a matter of weeks before his scheduled execution.

This raises serious concerns regarding federal law and constitutional rights.

If carried out, in addition to the scheduled execution of Samuel Smithers on Oct. 14, this would be the 15th execution in the state of Florida this year alone, which marks an unprecedented spree of state-sanctioned death.
