STOP the Execution of Michael King

Please contact Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Board of Executive Clemency urging them to grant clemency to Michael King, and stop his execution.

Florida intends to execute Michael King on March 17, 2026 for the 2008 murder of Denise Amber Lee.

We oppose this execution as we do every execution. Capital punishment is an act of state-sanctioned violence that violates the sacred dignity of every human life. In the words of Saint Pope John Paul II, “The dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil.”

Michael suffered a significant head injury as a child that caused serious mental impairments that caused hallucinations and caused him to fall behind in school. In his time on death row, Michael has become a model prisoner with consistent and steady behavior. He is a trusted contributor to the prison community, and works in plumbing and maintenance services in the prison. He has also become very devout in his Catholic faith. He goes to confession and receives the Eucharist regularly, and is known to provide companionship and comfort to those around him.

Micahel is a loving father, and his life is valued by so many. His experience on death row demonstrates his capacity for moral reflection and identity beyond the worst acts of his life.

After conducting 19 executions last year, the highest annual total in state history, Florida has set an early precedent of scheduling executions every two weeks. It is urgent that we lift our voices to oppose this spree of death and violation of the dignity of life.

Please contact Governor DeSantis and the Florida Board of Executive Clemency today.
