Save the Date: Religious Leaders’ Dialogue on the Death Penalty
CMN invites you to join us for a Religious Leaders Dialogue on the Death Penalty on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 7:00-8:30pm. This special event is in anticipation of the Washington National Opera’s premiere performance of Dead Man Walking Opera from February 25 – March 11, 2017. The opera, based on the powerful book of the same name by Sr. Helen Prejean, has been performed in hundreds of cities and continues to receive national attention.
The Religious Leaders Dialogue on the Death Penalty will include opening and closing performances from the Washington Opera cast, followed by a brief presentation by moderator Sr. Helen Prejean. The panel will include six national religious leaders, who believe in the sacredness of life and the human capacity for redemption.

Bishop Frank Dewane, Diocese of Venice, Florida, Chair of the Justice, Peace and Human Development Committee for the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops
Bishop Mariann Budde, Episcopal Bishop of Washington
Dr. Uma Mysorkar, President of the Hindu Temple Society of North America
Rev. Gabriel Salguero, founder of the National Latino Evangelical Coalition and pastor of Lamb Church in NYC
Imam Yahya Hendi, Muslim Chaplain at Georgetown University, Imam of the Islamic Society of Fredrick, MD and National Navel Medical Center
Rabbi Hannah Goldstein, Associate Rabbi at Temple Sinai in Washington, DC
Each panelist will express their personal thoughts regarding the use of the death penalty and respond to written questions submitted by the audience. This event will be free and open to the public. More information and a formal invitation will be out soon!
