Sr. Elaine Davia, CBS
Sr. Elaine Davia is Area Leader for the Sisters of Bon Secours, USA, as well as a member of the sisters’ Congregation Team. She joined the Sisters of Bon Secours in 1964 and professed her final vows in 1975. Most of Sr. Elaine’s ministerial life as a Sister of Bon Secours has been working as a family nurse practitioner. Her focus has been on helping people stay well, with a special calling to be with economically disadvantaged populations.
Sr. Elaine was a nurse practitioner at several Bon Secours facilities on the East Coast, working in rural and urban areas. She served at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, from 1990-1998 and opened a clinic for the underinsured. Sr. Elaine opened a clinic in 1998 in Arcadia, Florida, caring for migrant farm workers until 2005. Additionally, she ministered briefly in South America and Appalachia.
Sr. Elaine was a nurse practitioner at Access Carroll in Westminster, Maryland, and Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore. Sr. Elaine says that the ability to minister and help others as a nurse practitioner has been most meaningful.
Among the boards she has served on are Bon Secours Health System, Bon Secours Hampton Roads, Mary Immaculate Hospital and the National Religious Formation Conference. She currently serves on the board of Bon Secours Mercy Ministries. Sr. Elaine was formerly Formation Director for the Sisters of Bon Secours and has held additional leadership positions through her years with the Sisters of Bon Secours.
She graduated from the Bon Secours School of Nursing, where she earned her registered nurse diploma in 1970. She continued her education, earning certification as a family nurse practitioner from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, a Bachelor of Science in liberal science from Regents College, SUNY in New York and a Master of Science in pastoral counseling from Loyola College in Baltimore.
“I am moved and humbled to be the Area Leader for our sisters in the United States, and excited as I look forward to implementing the new directional statements from our 2024 Chapter.” She deeply appreciates the support and friendship of those in the Bon Secours community. Sister Elaine is also a French horn player, gardener, artist and aspiring keyboardist.
