Sr. Julie Cutter, D.C.

I am a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. When teaching in New Orleans, I was influenced by the passion of Sister Helen Prejean as she raised awareness of the inhumanity and injustice of the death penalty. I had the opportunity to accompany one of our Sisters to the execution of her nephew and was appalled at the violence and devastating effects on the families of both the person who was killed and the one who committed the crime. With Pax Christi, I commit myself personally to a vow of nonviolence. With Catholics Mobilizing Network, I seek to support educational and advocacy efforts. With Nuns Against Gun Violence, I learn from collaborators who are educating and advocating. At home in South Carolina, I work with the diocese and other partners to appeal to the governor and state legislators to stop the use of the death penalty.
