“I have desired to go
Where springs not fail,
To fields where flies no sharp and sided hail
And a few lilies blow

And I have asked to be
Where no storms come,
Where the green swell is in the havens dumb,
And out of the swing of the sea."

The poem, "Heaven-Haven," was written in 1864 by Gerard Manley Hopkins, a Jesuit priest. On July 17, 2020 it was recited by Dustin Lee Honken in the moments before his execution at the United States Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana. Dustin’s execution was the third in an unprecedented spree ordered by the federal government that year.
