STOP the Execution of Blaine Milam
Please contact Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, urging them to grant clemency to Blaine Milam, and stop his execution.
Texas intends to execute Blaine Milam on September 25, 2025 for the 2008 murder of Amora Bain Carson.
We oppose this execution as we do every execution. Capital punishment is an act of state sanctioned violence that violates the sacred dignity of every human life. In the words of Saint Pope John Paul II, “The dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil.”
Blaine was sentenced to death under Texas’s law of parties, which holds everyone involved in a crime equally responsible and allows a jury to convict a person based on the conduct of another. Additionally, Blaine’s involvement in the offense rested on the now discredited bite mark junk science. Jessica Carson, Amora’s mother, was sentenced to life in prison.
Both Blaine and Jessica were just 18 years old at the time of Amora’s death.
In addition to these concerns around Blaine’s sentencing, the state has twice scheduled and stayed previous executions due to considerable evidence of his intellectual disability. There is no reason that this execution should now move forward.
If carried out, this execution would be the first in the state of Texas after three full months with no executions.
Contact Gov. Abbot and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to support clemency for Blaine Milam.
