STOP the Execution of Chadwick “Khalil” Willacy
Please contact Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Board of Executive Clemency urging them to grant clemency to Chadwick “Khalil” Willacy, and stop his execution.
Florida intends to execute Chadwick “Khalil” Willacy on April 21, 2026 for the 1990 murder of Marlys Sather.
We oppose this execution as we do every execution. Capital punishment is an act of state-sanctioned violence that violates the sacred dignity of every human life. In the words of Saint Pope John Paul II, “The dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil.”
During Khalil’s trial, the defense presented very little meaningful information to the jury regarding mitigating factors in his case including documented substance abuse, evidence that he sought help before the crime, and a clear behavior shift tied to his addiction. Even still, during his initial sentence, the jury could not reach a unanimous decision.
That original sentence was ultimately overturned by the Florida Supreme Court due to serious jury selection errors. At resentencing, the new jury once again failed to reach a unanimous decision.
This case is marked by unanswered questions and procedural failures.
Additionally, as the state of Florida continues to recklessly pursue executions at an unprecedented pace, state authorities continue to block legal representatives from accessing records that would determine whether the method of execution that is being used would violate the Constitution’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment.
It is urgent that we lift our voices to oppose this spree of death and violation of the dignity of life.
