STOP the Execution of Roy L. Ward
Please contact Governor Mike Braun and the Indiana Parole Board urging them to grant clemency to Roy Lee Ward, and stop his execution.
Indiana intends to execute Roy Lee Ward on October 10, 2025 — World Day Against the Death Penalty — for the 2001 murder of Stacy Payne.
We oppose this execution as we do every execution. Capital punishment is an act of state sanctioned violence that violates the sacred dignity of every human life. In the words of Saint Pope John Paul II, “The dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil.”
Roy has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, a fact unknown at the time of his trial. His impairments led his initial legal counsel to describe him as an unremorseful “psychopath,” a label that is not a formal scientific diagnosis. Roy was sentenced to death by a jury that never heard about his disabilities, and he has never had the chance to present his true diagnoses as mitigating evidence. Today, his legal team affirms that he is remorseful and requests clemency so he can spend his remaining years in prison.
Contact Gov. Braun and the Indiana Parole Board to support clemency for Roy Lee Ward.
