Grounding Principles for Conversations in Communion

5 key lessons from the restorative practice of circle process that align with the aims of the Synod on Synodality. These are the foundational principles that shape meaningful conversations in communion.

Prayer for the Synod on Synodality

Adsumus Sancte Spiritus, or “We stand before You, Holy Spirit” has been historically used at councils, synods, and other Church gatherings for hundreds of years. It is attributed to Saint Isidore of Seville (c. 560-636). This prayer invites the Holy Spirit to operate within us so that we may be a community and a people of grace.

Standard Guidelines for Circle Process

When facilitating a conversation in communion, the facilitator may begin by suggesting these five standard guidelines. The group can then be invited to add others before establishing consensus. It is important to ensure that these five standards guidelines are included.
