STOP the Execution of Stacey Humphreys
Please contact the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles urging them to grant clemency to Stacey Humphreys, and stop his execution.
Georgia intends to execute Stacey Humphreys on December 17, 2025 for the 2003 murders of Cyndi Williams and Lori Brown.
We oppose this execution as we do every execution. Capital punishment is an act of state sanctioned violence that violates the sacred dignity of every human life. In the words of Saint Pope John Paul II, “The dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil.”
Stacey’s case is marked by injustice. During the sentencing phase of his trial, his jury deadlocked in a vote of 11-1 for life in prison without parole. Instead of calling a mistrial, the judge forced continued deliberation. Under coercive and chaotic conditions, the jury ultimately returned a unanimous verdict for a death sentence.
These facts show a likely violation of Stacey’s Sixth Amendment right to an impartial jury. Georgia courts have refused to consider this compelling evidence because of the state’s “no-impeachment rule” which prohibits the use of juror testimony to impeach a verdict, even in death penalty cases.
Georgia has not carried out any executions this year. The state handed down Stacey’s death warrants just two weeks before the date of his scheduled execution.
Please contact the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles today and urge them to consider the injustice in Stacey Humphreys case, grant him clemency, and reject Georgia’s pursuit of an execution.
