Photo Gallery: 2019 Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice

The annual Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice is an event that Catholic Mobilizing Network looks forward to all year. Every November, members Jesuit institutions and the larger church — many of them students and young people — gather in the context of social justice and solidarity to learn, reflect, pray, network, and advocate together.

It is a place where Catholic Mobilizing Network has the opportunity to educate about the brokenness of the U.S. criminal legal system and inspire action among passionate young leaders to embrace more restorative responses to harm.

Take a brief glimpse into our favorite moments of #IFTJ2019:

More than 800 IFTJ participants gather to hear the death row exoneration story of Alfred "Dewayne" Brown during a session titled Innocence, Racial Justice, and the Death Penalty.

CMN Executive Director Krisanne Vaillancourt Murphy welcomes attendees.

Dewayne speaks about life on Texas' death row.

A joyful spirit fills the room.

Students surround Dewayne after the session.

They take photos and ask questions.

IFTJ participants surround CMN's exhibitor table.

Students take resources and sign the National Catholic Pledge to End the Death Penalty.

A stack of CMN pledge cards, depleted by the last day.

CMN Director of Restorative Justice Caitlin Morneau leads a breakout titled Harm, Healing, and Human Dignity: A Catholic Encounter with Restorative Justice.

She is joined by Fr. George Williams, SJ, Death Row Chaplain at San Quentin State Prison in California.

Students participate in an interactive introduction to the session.

They discuss ways of responding to crime and acts of harm that honor human dignity.

Thanks to everyone who joined us at #IFTJ2019. See you next year!
